Is there a registration fee associated with Junior Jumpstart?
No! There are no registration fees for students or colleges to participate in this program.
What is the difference between Junior Jumpstart and the Rural College Access Road Trips?
Rural College Access Road Trips: These programs are focused on bringing colleges to schools that traditionally have not received out-of-state visits in some of the most remote corners of the state. This program aims to show the diversity of rural New Mexico with different routes in the fall and winter. All logistics outside of flights– including a bus, lodging, and meals– are covered by us.
Usually includes 12-20 colleges that offer a pathway to affordability for the students we will be seeing. We typically see 300-400 students, many of whom are rural FGLI.
For both programs, we bring wifi hotspots on the bus so that folks can work as we drive.
Junior Jumpstart: This program (in spring) is built on the independent school case studies in NM. Over three days we run programs at charter, public district, and independent high schools. In the evenings, we run independent school case studies and bilingual case studies with CBOs. Colleges drive themselves from place to place. Multiple programs happen at once.
Includes up to 35 colleges from a wide range of institutions. Students are all 11th graders and are generally from Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and in rural communities just outside these cities. Students reflect a broader range of NM economic spectrum.
